taccu

Starting point: Ulassai

End point: Ulassai

Distance: 16,3 km

Average time: 5 h

Height gain: 265 m

Waymarking: 505

Start from the lower car park at the Grotta Su Marmuri and follow the signs Number 505.  The path winds uphill, gaining altitude on the limestone outcrops that overlook the town of Ulassai; in a bit less than 15 minutes, where you can shelter under the rocks, a short deviation to the left leads to a viewpoint from which you have a great view of Ulassai and the surrounding tacchi. Continue on the path, always following the white-red waymarking to reach Pitzu S’Orgiulai (930 m amsl), from which there is another small deviation to the left. Once back on the main path, you continue towards “Su Pussu” ignoring various turnoffs and at the first junction you come to turn left. You come to another three junctions near to “Su Accara” (marked on the map) where you always have to keep right. After having walked on the level for quite a while, a sharp bend to the right leads us downhill and in just over half an hour you come to the locality called Su Pussu. From here the path proceeds level until it reaches a large amphitheatre from which you can see Santa Barbara. Now you descend again and after just less than three hours from the start you reach Sa Canna where a spring and tables are suitable for a pause. From here you can follow a deviation for 30 minutes to the top of the Santa Barbara waterfall, from where you have a great view over the valley. Back on the main path, from the unmade road you soon reach a turn-off to the left to follow a small path, first in the pine wood then through the macchia. You continue easily for 15 minutes until you once again meet the unmade road where you turn right and in 5 minutes you come to Baulassa with its distinctive “pinneti” (traditional shepherds’ huts) and fresh water spring .From here follow the unmade road eastwards  and ignoring two turnoffs to the right. The road bends leftwards and you follow it, without height changes, for about 2 km. The track then climbs slightly, you ignore a deviation on the left and immediately afterwards come to another junction. Keep right and you come to a nuraghe which you can visit. The track here starts to climb and gains100 m altitude. A couple of cement hairpins bring you to the asphalted road. After about 200 m follow an unmade road to the right and then right again on a path to bring you back to the parking place.
